In Singapore, there is no short of food, that’s what Singaporeans would agree at least. Our friends told us that Kim Heng Roasted Delights is worth a visit. As an avid Cantonese cuisine person, where “烧腊” or BBQ and roasted pork is love, we woke up fairly early on a Sunday and decided to have roasted pork and duck for lunch.
It is not the most convenient place to go if you don’t have a car. Alighting at Serangoon MRT then followed by bus 43 or 70/70M will be the suggested route unless you have access to a direct bus.
Upon arrival, we realised that Kim Heng was the only store with a queue. We observed the surrounding to see what people are eating. Most people were eating good from Kim Heng, we saw some having BBQ pork, roasted duck and roasted pork. They all looked really happy with their food. We thought this must be a good recommendation.
After queueing for a bit, we finally got our order. Folks at Kim Heng were friendly when we ordered our food, we thought that was important, there were times when we visited such busy places we got ignored or some people would just tell us that if we can’t wait, we could leave.
This was indeed a worthwhile visit, this did somewhat satisfied our tummy when we could not go to Guangzhou for the most authentic Cantonese cuisine. Here’s what we think:
- BBQ Pork was burnt at parts which makes it crunchy resulting a good mix of that crunchiness and fat.
- Roast Duck skin was delicious and meat was chewy and juicy
- Great sauce to sweeten the meat
Seems like I am not the only person who likes Kim Heng Roasted Delight:
Burnished skin made the duck look very appetising and there was a satisfying crunch when I bit into it. The meat was tender and moist, something that cannot be said of many of the roast ducks I tried.
