Hilton Honors Points Sale with 100% Bonus Points January 2019
Updated on 15 July 2016
There is another promotion running from 14-18 July. Just in case you missed the earlier 100% bonus offer. 80% is still not bad if you have a hotel to book in mind.
I was reading United’s San Francisco to Singapore Inaugural flight’s review at The Point Guy’s blog and found out that Hilton is currently running one of the best HHonors sales promotion. You will be getting 100% of the points you purchased.
One is able to purchase up to 80.000 of HHonors points during this promotion for which then you will be awarded another 80,000 HHonors points. That is a whooping 160,000 points at USD 800.00.
For only USD$0.05/HHonors Points, This is a deal too good to be true.
Coincidentally, I need to stop by Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in a few weeks. Out of curiosity I checked out the available Hilton Hotels in Kuala Lumpur. There are three Hilton Hotels located in Kuala Lumpur:
- DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur – Centrally located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur
- Hilton Kuala Lumpur – Located at the Train/Rail Transit Hub – KL Sentral
- Hilton Petaling Jaya – Just 15 minutes from Kuala Lumpur,
I checked out DoubleTree by Hilton which is located just close to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s Golden Triangle. I have previously stayed only in Hilton Hotels, I am curious to see how does a Cat 2 DoubleTree by Hilton looks like.
I know that a Cat 2 DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Hotel Penang is going to open in 31 October 2016, therefore I am gambling on getting 40,000 HHonors points to go for The Hilton 5th night free benefit – “Silver, Gold and Diamond elite members will receive every 5th night free on Standard Reward Stays of 5 consecutive nights or more”
It will only cost USD$200.00 for 20,000 + 20,000 (Bonus) = 40,000 HHonors points. That is only USD$40.00/night for 5 consecutive nights! This is full points only award redemption nights therefore it will not incur any Service Charges or Tax. If you are a Gold or Diamond Elite HHonors, you will be eligible for a free breakfast for you and your partner too!
OK, enough of dreaming, let’s come back to planning my Kuala Lumpur trip. My date is pretty much fixed so it is a matter of seeing which payment method is worth it.
I checked Agoda which charges USD 80.15, Booking.com which charges USD$83.00 and the Hotel’s direct website for comparison. The Official Hilton website offers the cheapest rate at USD$75.94.
Now we have decided on booking this trip via Hilton’s official website, the next question is which payment method
- Pay cash for everything – USD75.94.
- Redeem it at 10,000 points – This literally means USD$50.00 with 5000 + 5000 (Bonus Points) = 10,000
- Redeem via Cash (MYR111.00) + Points (4,000) – That will be USD$20 for 2000 + 2000 (Bonus Points) + MYR 111 + 6% Tax + 10% Service Charge = USD$31.60. Total = USD$20 + USD31.60 = USD51.60
After reviewing the option, I went for Cash + Points, since there are not much difference anyway, USD$1.60 difference, I might as well keep my points for future utilization and get additional points for my Credit Card purchase. One thing I am not sure is if Cash + Points counts into your Elite tier qualification. I’ll keep you posted with my DoubleTree Hilton experience.
