When you fall in love with durian, you for crave it almost everyday because you know it is a seasonal fruit and you need to indulge it to the fullest!

After tasting Red Prawn Durian recently, we decided to try the D24 breed. Before the Mao Shan Wang era, D24 was seen as the Ferrari of durian. It was hard to obtain and expensive.
Today, a good D24 doesn’t cost as much. In fact it is considered as one of the lowest grade durian in durian hierarchy. Some don’t even consider this as premium durian. If this is your first time trying out durian, often people will not recommend this because is not “premium enough”. Taste wise I think it is OK for first timer. That’s what we did.
The Michelin Guide
Slightly less overwhelming in flavour, the D24 is one fruit that you could keep on eating without getting too sick of it. Thick and creamy, the D24 is reliable in terms of the sweet taste profile it constantly delivers. An easy introduction for first-timers to ease into the strong-smelling fruit.
Our Experience 👍👍👍👍
We ordered 15kg of D24 durian and here’s what we feel after consuming them:

- Thick and creamy. Sweet tasting. Not as sweet as Red Prawn 🦐.
- 5-8 pieces of D24 will make you full.
- A minority of the durian tasted bitter.
- Consist of some very big and very small seeds.
- Doesn’t smell as “pungent”.
- Successfully introduced it to new durian eater.
Closing Thoughts 💭
We grew up eating kampung durian. Having D24 was a very very rare occurrence as it costed a bomb that time. It is a delicious durian more so it felt like walking down memory lane, being reminded of those precious family moments and to reflect on how grateful we are today being able to indulge the king of fruit!
Does eating D24 Durian bring back such memory for you too?
